Learning diplomacy: Thirty-five students from Guilderland High School joined roughly 1,500 students from around the world for a Model United Nations program at Yale University in Connecticut in January: Megan Anders, Grace Aniolek, Maya Banks, Emily Bolognino, Emily Callender, Lauren Cassella, Joshua Coton, Anna Davidson, Meghan Depew, Emily Frey, Lindsey Griffith, Josh Gutknecht, Jordyn Helfrich, Daniel Joynt, Kyle Katlan, Liam Kelley, Matthew Kinnally, Chris Ladopoulos, Nicholas Ledermann, Jenna Mattson, Nicole McGrath, Alexander Mendel, Caitlyn Miller, Kathryn Moriarty, Cara Mortati, Emily Neimeyer, Evanna Peng, Halle Risko, Yash Saxena, Christopher Scheidel, Sidharth Shamshabad, Tory Tyksinski, Sumit Vohra, Jack Zheng, and Daniel Zhu. On the trip were the club’s advisors, social studies teacher Derick Kopff and special-education teacher Carrie Miller. Tammy Zalewski, a teaching assistant at the school, chaperoned the trip

Guard promotes

These local members of the New York Army National Guard have been promoted;
— Chanel Kung from Slingerlands, assigned to Division Signal Company, 42nd Infantry Division, received a promotion to the rank of specialist; and

— Kiara Perez from Schenectady, assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 501st Ordnance Battalion received a promotion to the rank of specialist.

 

 

Dean’s list

These local students have been named to the dean’s list or received a similar honor from their college or university for the fall 2016 semester:

— Seth Schoenhaus of Slingerlands at Denison University in Ohio;

— Jake Smith a 2014 graduate of Guilderland High School at the State University of New York College at Cortland, where he is majoring in sports management and has been a three year varsity football starter;

— Meghan Moran, a junior marketing management major at Grove City College in Pennsylvania. She is a 2014 graduate of Academy Of The Holy Names and is the daughter of Sean and Lisa Moran from Delmar;

— Alexandra Dombroski of Schenectady at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York;

— Molly Sonenberg of Schenectady at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York;

— Paul Corradi, of Schenectady, at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island;

— Angela Cunningham of East Berne a graduate of Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, at the State University of New York College at Cortland;

— Jenna Robinson of Singerlands, a member of the Class of 2018 at Marist College in Poughkeepsie where she is majoring in biology and environmental science;

— Ryan Gallagher of Schenectady, at the State University of New York College of Technology at Delhi where he is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business and professional golf management;

— Jillian Robinson of Slingerlands at the State University of New York College of Technology at Delhi where she is pursuing an associate’s degree in veterinary science technology;

— Charles Zajac of Slingerlands at the State University of New York College of Technology at Delhi where he is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing;

— Natalie H. Squillace of Slingerlands at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York where she is a member of the Class of 2018 and is majoring in performance and communication arts. Squillace attended Albany Academy for Girls;

— Allison J. Reiner of Altamont  at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York where she is a member of the Class of 2020. Reiner attended Guilderland High School;

— Yasmin Fabian of Albany in the Class of 2017 has earned dean’s high honors at Connecticut College where she is majoring in psychology and Latin American studies;

— Mallory Schultz of Glenmont in the Class of 2019  has earned dean’s  honors at Connecticut College where she is majoring in behavioral neuroscience;

— Alyssa Kogelmann of Slingerlands in the Class of 2020  has earned dean’s high honors at Connecticut College. She has not yet declared a major;

— Sara Kogelmann  of Slingerlands in the Class of 2020  has earned dean’s high honors at Connecticut College. She has not yet declared a major;
 

Guard promotes
