Can we have softer sidewalks?

To the Editor:

It was great to read about the collaboration of the University at Albany planning students and the town on the trails and sidewalks project [The Altamont Enterprise, “Super: ‘Our goal is to make Guilderland a walkable community,’” posted March  2, 2020].

A thought about the sidewalks. Would it be possible to consider a non-concrete composition for the sidewalks? The rubber chips in the various playgrounds come to mind.

I am down in Florida, enjoying walks on the softer sand. For those of us with plantar fascia or others with a bone spur, this would be very helpful. Texture of the rubber would allow for comfort and improve drainage.

Yours for a better Guilderland.
