Gullies a problem throughout Hilltowns

To the Editor:

I did not mean for my previous letter to the editor to cause a backlash for Mr. Randy Bashwinger and the town of Berne staff.

As I indicated in my letter, the significant drain areas along the sides of roads are throughout all the Hilltowns of Knox, Berne, East Berne, and West Berne and include not only town but also county and state roads.

The majority of these gullies are not filled with rock.

I also did not mean to have a focus on Bradt Hollow Road alone. This is just one road that is lacking shoulders due to these trenches, creating roads that seem very narrow and making it nerve-wracking to go up a steep, winding hill during a snowstorm — hoping a snow plow is not coming down at the same time.

I’m sure if Mr. Bashwinger had the budget, the Hilltowns would have the best roads in the state. But he is doing a good job with what he has to work with.
