MIA does not endorse candidates

This postcard, featuring a picture of Mickey Cleary, at right, with Don Reeb, was sent by “The Friends of Mickey Cleary,” it says. Cleary is running in the Democratic primary to represent District 32 in the Albany County Legislature. “It wasn’t my intention to say the McKownville Improvement Association was supporting me,” Cleary told The Enterprise on Tuesday.  “It was just to identify Don Reeb.” Reeb, a former president of the association and currently a board member, said, since the flyer was sent, he is no longer involved in Cleary’s campaign.

To the Editor:

Despite the implication contained in the recent postcard sent to McKownville voters by The Friends of Mickey Cleary, the McKownville Improvement Association does not and has never endorsed a candidate for a political office.

The association is a neighborhood group with a tradition going back to 1924 that is focused on providing information and a forum for issues affecting McKownville as a neighborhood.

Editor’s note: Don Reeb, who had backed Mickey Cleary in his race to unseat Paul Miller in representing District 32 of the Albany County Legislature, said on Tuesday, “I’m no longer involved in his campaign.” He said he withdrew his support because of Cleary’s campaign flyers.
