Holmes earns Scouts’ Gold
Alexis Holmes of North Bethlehem recently earned her Gold Award in the Girl Scouts of America, the highest award in Girl Scouts.
Her project was advocacy for the Albany County Nursing Home. She selected this project because of the excellent care that the father of a friend received there in his final days. His family was somewhat apprehensive due to negative comments they had heard but they were pleasantly surprised by the care and compassion provided.
As part of the project, she developed a brochure that the nursing home can use to promote the level of care provided. Also, she did a presentation to the Albany County Legislature and organized a senior ball at the Albany County Nursing Home for the patients where she and other Scouts went to the home to provide companionship and dance with the residents.
Holmes, the daughter of Jennifer and Lee A. Homes, is a graduate of Guilderland High School. She is a volunteer firefighter with the North Bethlehem Fire Department and she coaches basketball at the middle school. She is in her first year at Hudson Valley Community College where she is on the dean’s list and is studying exercise science.
