Robert Elmer Shaver

BERNE — Robert Elmer Shaver, a man of integrity who found joy in simple pleasures, died peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024. He was 84.

“Robert, known affectionately as ‘Bob’ to his friends and family, was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend,” his daughter, Roberta Evans, wrote in a tribute.

Born to Cleo and Elmer Shaver on Dec. 14, 1939, in Troy, New York, he graduated from Troy High School in 1956.

“His professional career was marked by excellence and integrity,” the tribute said. “He retired from Otis Elevator after 25 years of dedicated service as a union elevator mechanic. He was a long-time member of Local 35 of the International Union of Elevator Constructors in Albany, New York.

“Outside of his professional endeavors, Robert found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid reader of science fiction, and could frequently be found engrossed in a book by his favorite sci-fi author, Issac Asimov. In his earlier years, he was on a bowling team in Altamont with his wife, Diane.

“Robert will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Although he has left this world, his memory will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

“May he rest in peace, knowing that he was loved and cherished by many.”

The tribute concluded with these words: “In the quiet moments, we will remember his laughter, his wisdom, and the love he shared.”
