To the Editor:

I was interested in Jeff Perlee’s fine article about the efforts to preserve and maintain those areas of Guilderland and Voorheesville where there are beautiful views of the Helderbergs.

One of these holds a special place in my memories. As a former long-time resident of Altamont, I remember coming home by way of the Altamont Orchards and suddenly seeing that magnificent view of the whole stretch of the Helderbergs rise up in front of me.

It always made me realize how fortunate I was to live in a place where I could see it every day. I have traveled a lot, but after one of my trips I realized I didn’t have to go across the ocean to be in a beautiful place.

I hope that the efforts by the Abbruzzes and others in the village and the town will succeed in preserving this one for generations to come.
