BETHLEHEM — A 61-year-old woman who fell while skiing on Monday at Five Rivers was rescued by Forest Ranger Tyler Mitchell.

He was patrolling the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center when he responded to a 9-1-1 call for an injured skier on the Red Trail on the center’s property, according to a release from the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation.

He located the Delmar woman a half-mile from the trailhead. She was cross-country skiing when she fell, injuring her upper leg. Mitchell provided first aid and directed two other rangers to their location, the release said.

The rangers warmed the woman and packaged her into a litter to be driven out on a fire department’s utility terrain vehicle. She was then transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
