Take a postcard tour of early 1900s Guilderland

To the Editor:

On Feb. 19 at 1:15 p.m., the Guilderland Historical Society will be holding its initial meeting of the year in the Helderberg Room of the Guilderland Public Library. After a business meeting of approximately 20 to 25 minutes, Guilderland Town Historian Mary Ellen Johnson will be presenting “A Postcard Tour of Early 20th-Century Guilderland.”

There are many structures that are represented here. Some are no longer with us. You are invited to attend.

The Guilderland Historical Society had an excellent 2025.  Five new historical markers were secured through funding from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation.

In addition, through a wonderful response from the community and distant relatives,  a marker honoring the Terpenning sisters who married the Van Auken brothers who fought in the Revolutionary War was secured. The marker is titled Liberty’s Women.

The Guilderland Historical Society is looking forward to securing additional markers in 2026, starting with the Norman Vale marker. The year culminated with a successful Holiday Festival at the Mynderse-Frederick house in early December 2025. This event was co-sponsored with the Guilderland Garden Club.

Join us in planning and commemorating this year, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The society will complete another Revolutionary War book study group later this year and honor local veterans with another banner at Tawasentha Park.

The society will also continue its public displays of historical paraphernalia, improve its preservation of its existing collections, and participate in local history programs. We hope to see you there, and if you are interested in local history, please consider joining the society. There will be membership forms available.
