Listen: Anna Capuano, a Guilderland High senior, talks about women in engineering

The Enterprise — Sean Mulkerrin
Anna Capuano liked playing with her big brother’s Legos as a kid and, since kindergarten, has liked hands-on science exploration. Now a Guilderland High School senior, she helped to found a club, E 4 G2, engineering for girls and guys, which has all girl members. She and classmate Sophie Gerchicov recently organized a well-attended conference where women involved in chemical, biomedical, civil, electrical, and computer engineering spoke to girls from Bethlehem, Shenendehowa, Schalmont, Niskayuna, and Holy Names. The girls also worked in groups to rescue a sunken car from a bucket of water, coming up with different solutions to the challenge. As Capuano stresses in this week’s podcast the point is to find a worthwhile solution, not to be first.
