County paramedic charged with burglary

ALBANY COUNTY — A paramedic who worked for the Albany County Sheriff’s Office and who was also a firefighter for Troy has been charged with several felonies including burglary and larceny.
Devvan A. Farina, 39, of Albany, was charged on Feb. 6 by Bethlehem Police who wrote in a release, “Farina would burglarize residences where he knew the resident had been transported to a local area hospital leaving the residence unoccupied.”

Farina was charged with three felonies — second-degree burglary, second-degree attempted burglary, and fourth-degree grand larceny — as well as with two misdemeanors: fourth-degree criminal mischief and attempted petit larceny.

He was arraigned in Bethlehem Town Court by Justice Ryan Donovan and remanded to Albany County’s jail in lieu of $20,000 cash, $40,000 secured bond, or $60,000 partially secured bond.

A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 9 at noon and a return date was set for March 5 at 4 p.m. in Bethlehem Town Court.

Bethlehem residents who think they may have been victimized by Farina are asked to call 518-439-9973 while Troy residents with those concerns are asked to call 518-270-4772.

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office, Troy Police, the Capital Region Crime Analysis Center, and New York State Intelligence Center helped Bethlehem Police with the investigation.
