Nicholas Valentine
WESTERLO — Nicholas Valentine, a vegetable farmer who served his community and loved his family, died peacefully on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, with his family at his home at 1036 Route 402 in Westerlo. He was 87.
He was born on March 23, 1938 in Smithtown, Long Island to James and Elsie (née Sanders) Valentine, and graduated in 1955 from Smithtown High School.
He was married on May 30, 1964 to Barbara May Halinar.
“Nick was an amazing husband, father, father-in-law, PopPop, G-Pop, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend,” his family wrote in a tribute. “We were blessed with an awesome family that keeps growing, and many wonderful friends.
“Nick was a vegetable farmer, Sweetwater Farms on Long Island for 30 years, and moved to Westerlo, in April 1984, where he continued to farm, and served as a horticulture sales rep for Griffin.
“He was a member of Hauppauge, Long Island fire department and benevolent association; Long Island and Albany County Farm Bureau member and served on board of directors; Long Island and Albany County Cooperative Extension member and served on board of directors. Nick also served as a 4-H leader in Hauppauge.”

Nicholas Valentine is survived by his wife, Barbara, and their four children, Nicholas (Susan), Ralph (Colleen), Lillian, and Elsie; their four grandchildren, Emily (Julia), Nicholas (Alyssa), Matthew, and Abigail; and their two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Nicholas.
“We are honoring Nick’s request for cremation and no funeral service,” his family wrote. “At a later time we will celebrate his life.”
