Gordon Lennox Pinney, a Korean War veteran, was the lead bus mechanic for the Voorheesville schools, and was chief of the New Salem Volunteer Fire Department.

Formerly of Voorheesville, he died on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, in Newtown, Pennsylvania. He was 92.

He was born in Rensselaer, New York to Marion Lennox and Edward Pinney on June 2, 1933. He grew up in East Greenbush, and attended Columbia High School.

“Gordon enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951,” his family wrote in a tribute, “was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, and served as a Boilerman 3rd Class aboard the USS Missouri during the Korean War (1952-1953).

“Gordon married Lettie Mae Newell in 1953, and following discharge from the Navy in 1954, they returned to New York state. In 1961, Gordon and Lettie purchased a home in Voorheesville, where they lived for more than 50 years. 

“He was employed in the glass business at Dave’s Glass, as a car mechanic at New Salem Garage, and finally, as lead bus mechanic for the Voorheesville Central School District.

“He was active in the community, serving in the New Salem Volunteer Fire Department, rising to the rank of chief, delivering for Meals on Wheels, and serving as a worker and board member for the New Scotland Community Food Pantry.”

Gordon Lennox Pinney, is survived by his wife of 72 years, Lettie, of Newtown, Pennsylvania; daughters Carole Schultz (David) of Liverpool, New York; and Diane Belezos (William) of Yardley, Pennsylvania; and son Allen Pinney (Lisa) of Yardley, Pennsylvania. Seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive him.

His parents, Edward and Marion (née Lennox) died before him, as did his brother, Allen, and his sisters, Loretta Nelson and Marion Headley.
