Enterprise true to its long and valued heritage

To the Editor:
As a publicist for the New Scotland Historical Association, I regularly send notices to The Altamont Enterprise & Albany County Post to publicize association events. In reading the publicity printed for our upcoming event on Feb. 5, I was delighted to see that not only was the notice and image I sent printed, but the editor put forth the extra effort to research the image and to flesh-out its history.

I commend this paper for its willingness to investigate the background information for the articles it publishes, and for publicizing local events free of charge in the interest of informing our community.

Also, as one who often writes articles for the “Sentinel,” the historical association’s quarterly newsletter, I frequently spend rewarding hours reading through Altamont Enterprise newspapers of the past. Published since 1884, these issues are available through the New York State Historic Newspapers, with their images provided by the Guilderland Public Library.

I noticed the banner head on its July 15, 1892, issue reads, “Devoted to Vicinity Interests and the Gathering of Local News.” Certainly, the Altamont Enterprise & Albany County Post remains true to its long and valued heritage.
