Albert E. Parshall

Albert E. Parshall, formerly of Guilderland, was a Marine who served during both World War II and the Korean War. Later, he was very active in fraternal organizations, both in Guilderland and in Shippenburg, Pennsylvania where he lived.

He died on Saturday night, Jan. 28, 2017, at the Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania where he had lived. He was 89. He had been a resident of Menno Haven Nursing Center for two years.

Mr. Parshall was born on July 22, 1927 in Nassau in Rensselaer County, New York, the son of Earl L. Parshall and Lena B. (née Race) Parshall.

A Marine veteran of World War II, he served aboard the battleship U.S.S. New Jersey and the cruiser U.S.S. Rochester, during the Japanese Occupation and during Korean War. He was a member of the Operating Engineers 106 in Albany for 65 years, retiring in 1990.

Mr. Parshall was a member of Noah Lodge 754, Free and Accepted Masons in Altamont for 55 years, serving as Master in 1968; Ancient Temple Chapter 5, Royal Arch Masons, Albany; Valley of Albany Scottish Rite; and Cypress Shriners, Albany, where he especially enjoyed taking children to the Shriners Hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts; the Burn Center in Boston; and the Cumberland Valley Lodge 315, F & AM, Shippensburg.

He was also a member of Helderberg Chapter 301 Order of the Eastern Star in Altamont, serving as Patron seven times; Beukendaal-George Hope Chapter 271 OES, Schenectady; and Martha Custis Chapter 342 OES, Chambersburg. He served as District Grand Lecturer in 1972, Grand Marshal of the Grand Chapter OES of New York in 1983, and as Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of New York in 1994.

Albert was a Life Member Emeritus of the Guilderland Volunteer Fire Company and the American Legion Post 223, Shippensburg. He had been a member of the Lions Club, Shippensburg and The Shippensburg Historical Society.

Albert E. Parshall is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris Richards Parshall; by his son, Earl G. Parshall and Eddy of Newville; his daughter, Vickie A. Parshall, of Alexandria, Virginia; his granddaughter Vicki Marie Lincoln and her husband, Martin, of Kansas City, Kansas; his sisters, Hazel M. Holden of Albany, Dr. Phyllis McDonald of Germantown, Maryland, Persis P. Vehar of Ithaca, New York; several nieces and nephews; and several step-grand and great-grandsons and granddaughters.

His parents died before him, as did his sister, Patricia B. Miller; five brothers-in-law; and his granddaughter, Christina Reynolds.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 11 a.m. at the Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, 51 Asper Drive, Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. Arrangements are by the Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory. Martha Custis Chapter 342 OES will conduct service at 10:45 a.m., and Cumberland Valley Masonic Lodge 315 services will follow.
