An opportunity for the entire community to come together

To the Editor:

Come let’s celebrate the town of Berne together.

On Feb. 1, our town will mark an important moment as attorney Melanie laCour is sworn in as the newest member of the Berne Town Board. The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at the Berne firehouse on Canaday Hill Road.

This event shines a light on a new chapter of dedication and service to our community.

Ms. laCour brings a wealth of legal experience and a heartfelt commitment to serving Berne’s residents. She has expressed a clear vision of ensuring the town board reflects the will of the people, fosters transparency, and addresses critical priorities including improving Berne’s financial health.

Her determination to see our town thrive is encouraging and inspiring.

Adding to the significance of the day, the oath will be administered by Presiding Justice Elizabeth Garry, Appellate Division Third Department, to whom Ms.laCour is related. Justice Garry is the daughter of the late Dr. Margery Smith who served as Berne’s beloved physician for many years, making the occasion even more special.

This event is an opportunity for the entire community to come together to help bring in a new era of town governance and support Ms.laCour as she steps into this important role.

Let’s celebrate and stand behind her efforts to help create a stronger and more prosperous future for Berne that truly represents us all — regardless of party.
