BPD: Police found drugs after driver evaded traffic stop
BETHLEHEM — A Latham man was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance after, police say, he evaded a traffic stop on Tuesday.
In the early morning hours of Jan. 14, at about 12:53 a.m., Joel A. Tuberville, 33, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala on Delaware Avenue when police tried to stop him for violating the state’s Vehicle and Traffic Law, according to a release from Bethlehem Police.
He refused to stop so officers pursued him, going west, and were able to block in his car when he pulled into Abbey Road, attempting to turn around, the release said.
Deputy Chief James Rexford, public information officer for the Bethlehem Police, told The Enterprise that police, while searching Tuberville, found three methamphetamine pills in his clothing.
Methamphetamine is a lab-made stimulant with high addiction potential often prescribed to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Tuberville was charged with numerous traffic violations as well as with the misdemeanor for possession of a controlled substance. Further charges are pending.
