Tax-Aide offers free tax prep

VOORHEESVILLE — AARP Tax-Aide will once again be preparing, for free, income tax returns at St. Matthew’s Parish Center in Voorheesville beginning on Friday, Feb. 21, and running for three additional Fridays: Feb. 28, March13, and March 27.

Each year, from early February through mid-April, American Association of Retired Persons Tax-Aide volunteers prepare and electronically file federal and New York State tax returns for low- and middle-income taxpayers, to anyone of any age with special attention to those aged 60 and older.

Membership in AARP is not required. Volunteers, who are trained and certified by the Internal Revenue Service, also provide free electronic filing of the tax returns including direct deposit of refunds.

Tax-Aide volunteers work one-on-one with taxpayers to help them prepare their income tax forms and answer tax-related questions all at no cost to the taxpayer.

Appointments are required. To make an appointment, call the Voorheesville Public Library’s Information Desk at 518-765-2791.

In addition to their tax information documents, taxpayers are requested to bring a copy of last year's tax return as well as their Social Security cards with them to their appointment.

For more information about the AARP Tax-Aide program, call AARP toll-free 1-888-OUR-AARP (1-888-687-2277), or visit the AARP web site at www.aarp.org/taxaide.
