— Our community was shocked to hear of the death of Miss Sarah White, which occurred at her home Monday night, after a few days’ illness.

— The American Committee for Relief in the Near East, for Armenians, Syrians, Greeks and other exiles and refugees is appealing for a minimum of $30,000 to be subscribed during the week of Jan. 12 to 19. In accordance with this appeal the Lutheran church will take an offering Jan. 19th. All persons in the community desiring to contribute to this most worthy cause may leave their contributions with Miss Camille Gallup.

NEW SALEM.

The first deep snow of the season visited us last Thursday night, when over half a foot fell. New Year’s Day was rather unpleasant for traveling, as it rained nearly all day and night.

VILLAGE NOTES.

The young people of the village have been enjoying coasting on the hill these pleasant nights. The old road is now in fine condition for coasting and, being less traveled by teams, it is an ideal place for riding.

FEURA BUSH.

There have been no services in the church for several Sundays, owing to the delay in shipping the new furnace.

STOLEN — The person who took my Thermos bottle out of my R. F. D. sleigh under Mr. Snyder’s shed had better return it at once and save a lot of trouble for himself, because I know the party. T. J. Schell, Altamont.
