WRIGHT — Rosemary Christoff Dolan worked as both a professional and as a volunteer to help people in need.

Ms. Christoff Dolan, who lived on Cook Road in the Schoharie County town of Wright, died on Sunday, Jan. 7, at the Albany Medical Center after a decline in health. She was 78.

She was born Oct. 25, 1945 in Rochester, New York, a daughter of immigrants Steven L. and Marie (née Popova) Christoff. After graduating from high school, she attended Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, and Hunter College and New York University in New York City where she received her master’s degree.

“She worked at various jobs until moving to Schoharie County in the 1980s and marrying Matthew Dolan,” her family wrote in a tribute. “She worked for the Office of Developmental Disabilities, the Office of Mental Health, Capital District Psychiatric Center, and lastly for the Albany County Office of the Aging.

“Rosemary also did a great deal of volunteer work for the Town of Wright/Schoharie Lions Club, serving as president in 1994 and 2000 and she also served as district chair and chairperson for Dogs for the Handicapped. Her work also included volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.

“She purchased the D.W. Jenkins House in Central Bridge in 1986, researching the history behind the home and eventually succeeded in registering it as an historic site. Rosemary also took an interest in the Central Bridge area and added the Central Bridge Civic Association to her memberships that she belonged to.

“In her spare time, she enjoyed photography, taking that special shot of family, friends, and community events. Rosemary was a known writer and contributor to various papers both locally and regionally along with the book, ‘Tangled Roots.’ She also enjoyed ballroom dancing and giving generously to many charities.”
