Margaret A. Maynes

Margaret A. Maynes, a kind person who grew up in Westerlo and lived most of her life in Berne, worked for four generations of Hannays at their hose reel company.
She “sadly left us on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at Our Lady of Mercy surrounded in the comfort of her family and friends,” her family wrote in a tribute. She was 92.

Born in Catskill, New York on May 5, 1931, the daughter of William LaGrange and Leona (née Blair) LaGrange, she grew up in Westerlo.

“Peggy worked at Hannay Reels in 1950 when still a teenager,” her family wrote. “She furthered her education at Albany Business College, earning her secretarial degree.

“She then returned to Hannay Reels in 1971 where she worked full-time until her retirement in 1993. She worked for four generations of Hannays over her tenure in various administrative positions, finishing her career as a sales manager assistant.

“She was meticulous and dedicated, and created life-long friendships. Peggy came out of retirement in 2010 when she went to work at Hannaford Supermarket in Voorheesville, where she worked for the next 12 years. Everybody knew Peg!

“Margaret lived in Berne most of her life, in the big white house on the hill. She loved taking care of her home and yard. She liked to get together with friends to play card games and go out to dinner (she loved Burger King).

“She loved to dance and she loved going to the casino. She was a kind and gentle soul who always smiled and loved everybody.”
