Seven new COVID cases at GCSD

GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland schools learned of seven new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, Superintendent Marie Wiles wrote in an email to district families on Thursday evening.

Two of the cases — one at Pine Bush Elementary School and the other of a district-wide employee — require contact tracing.

Additionally, three cases at Farnsworth Middle School and two at Guilderland High School do not require tracing.

The state’s health department has adopted guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, reducing the length of quarantine from 14 to 10 days.

According to the state’s COVID-19 Report Card, as of Thursday evening, Guilderland has had 93 cases of COVID-19 so far this school year: 51 at the high school, 16 at the middle school, seven each at Lynnwood and Westmere elementary schools, six at Altamont Elementary School, four at Pine Bush Elementary School, and two at Guilderland Elementary School.

Because of staff shortages due to quarantine requirements, students in grades 8 through 12 are learning remotely on Friday, Jan. 8, as they did on Thursday, Jan.7.
