Where high school athletes are today

These local athletes are playing in college:

— Kathryn Johnston of Altamont was on the volleyball team for the State University of New York College at Oneonta;

— Katelyn McDonough of Guilderland was on the volleyball team for the State University of New York College at Oneonta;

— Joseph Galusha of Schenectady was recently named to the Castleton University wrestling roster for the 2018-19 season;

— Monique Britton of Westerlo, a Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School graduate and a sophomore on the women’s basketball team at the State University of New York College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill, has been named the athletic program’s Fighting Tiger Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Nov. 11.

The 5 foot, 8 inch guard helped lead Cobleskill to a pair of season-opening non-conference victories as the Fighting Tigers downed Southern Vermont College, 65 to 58, in their home opener then took to the road to defeat Alfred University, 75 to 63.

Britton scored 13 points, grabbed six rebounds, and made four steals in the team’s win over Southern Vermont while connecting on  four of five three-point field goal attempts while posting her first career double/double with 15 points and a career high of 15 rebounds against Alfred University.

For the season the Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School alumna is averaging 14.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 40 percent from the floor including 63.6 percent from three-point range in two appearances this year;

— Michael Considine of Delmar was one of 250 New Paltz student athletes who participated in the 13th annual Leaf Rake across the New Paltz community, Nov. 3 and 4, raking leaves for the elderly;

— Aaron Carrk of Delmar was one of 250 New Paltz student athletes who participated in the 13th annual Leaf Rake across the New Paltz community, Nov. 3 and 4, raking leaves for the elderly;

— Samuel Yakubowski of Delmar was one of 250 New Paltz student athletes who participated in the 13th annual Leaf Rake across the New Paltz community, Nov. 3 and 4, raking leaves for the elderly;

— Luke Dole of Delmar was one of 250 New Paltz student athletes who participated in the 13th annual Leaf Rake across the New Paltz community, Nov. 3 and 4, raking leaves for the elderly. Dole, who plays soccer, earned an All-SUNYAC recognition for the Fall 2018 season. SUNYAC is the State University of New York Athletic Conference;

— George Marinopoulos of Slingerlands, a Guilderland High School graduate and now a sophomore at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute majoring in business and management with a 3.75 grade-point average, has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District 3 Division III Football Team, selected by College Sports Information Directors of America.

A quarterback, his career record is 13-2 as a starter. This year, Marinopoulos has helped the Engineers to an 8-1 overall record, a league-best 4-1 mark, and a berth into the National Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament — all for the second consecutive season; and

— Ethan McDonald of Guilderland competed for the State University of New York College at Oneonta men’s cross-country team during the recently completed fall season. The team competed in eight meets this fall and finished in second place at the SUNYAC Championships and 4th at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Atlantic Region Championships.

McDonald competed in five meets this fall and posted a season-best 8K time of 25:34.4 at the Rowan Inter-Region Border Battle. He was also one of seven competitors that ran at the NCAA Championship meet, finishing 231st overall.
