A fascinating window into life of Beverwijck

To the Editor:

Kudos to The Enterprise for its fine Dec. 12, 2019 editorial and illustration calling attention to the ongoing research of local treasure Dr. Charles Gehring, and his contribution to the knowledge of our area.

The work of Dr. Gehring and others such as artist Len Tantillo provide us a fascinating window into the daily life of Albany’s 1600s predecessor — a small but busy Dutch trading outpost on the Hudson known as “Beverwijck.”

Here’s hoping that Dr. Gehring’s health stays solid — and that he’s able to successfully complete translation of the remaining 12,000 documents from old Dutch hand script to modern English!
