See a Christmas classic, help a good cause
To the Editor:
This holiday season, the Voorheesville Community and School Foundation is thrilled to present our first theatrical event at the Voorheesville Performing Arts Center for the entire community’s enjoyment. Straight from Schenectady’s Proctors, the Classic Theater Guild will perform It’s a Wonderful Life at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20.
Open-seating tickets are $5 for adults with a $3 discount for seniors and $2 for children and students. Tickets are available for purchase online at: http://www.vcsfoundation.com. The Performing Arts Center is located through the middle school entrance on 432 New Salem Road in Voorheesville. In case of severe snowfall, the show will be performed on Dec. 21.
It's a Wonderful Life has become almost as familiar as Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. George Bailey has dreams of adventures that have been quashed by family obligations and civic duty.
On Christmas Eve, an angel in training, Clarence, descends to save George from despair. Clarence shows George what the world would have been like had he never been born and that he really is living a wonderful life. The play celebrates the season and the American philosophy that hard work, fair play, and the love and support of one's family and community will be rewarded.
For more than a decade, the Foundation has supported the Classic Theater Guild’s free outdoor Summer Theater Festival at Indian Ladder Farms. The Guild, a local grassroots theater company, performs four to five main-stage shows each year at Proctors. Its mission is to advance theater arts through education, to present plays on an array of diverse topics, to encourage new performers, and to support emerging playwrights.
Please join us for this memorable theater experience. The proceeds from It's a Wonderful Life will help the Foundation support our local performing arts.
Happy holidays.
