Fuss to coordinate senior services for Knox

To the Editor:

At its Jan. 1 reorganizational town board meeting, the Knox Town Board established two new positions in the town: Youth Services Coordinator and Senior Services Coordinator.  I am very pleased that at the February meeting we filled the position of Senior Services Coordinator, and we welcome Charlotte Fuss to that position.

The purpose of establishing these new positions is to bring attention to the importance of and to coordinate efforts in these two areas within the town.   Many individuals and organizations have volunteered their help in these areas in the past. The establishment of these new positions is in no way meant to replace any of these efforts, but to further pull them together to benefit our community.

We don't have to look too far within our own families or our neighborhood to understand the value of investing further efforts in these areas.  Understanding needs and available resources and then promoting practical advancement through communication and coordination is something that is best handled by an individual whose sole focus is on that area.

The town board will rely on the Youth Services Coordinator to plan, promote, organize and direct recreational, educational, and health programs for our youth. In addition, she or he may represent Knox with other associated entities in this area.

Here's the catch: Both of these positions are being initiated as non-salaried positions.  The advantage is coming in on the ground floor, thus being able to shape the advancement of critically important service to our community.

Knox has always been recognized by its hallmark of volunteerism. Anyone interested should contact any town board member or apply in writing.  Contact information is on the town's website at www.knoxny.org.

Charlotte Fuss has for years taken it upon herself to promote and organize health, recreational, and benefit programs for senior adults in Knox.  She has also taken an active role with regional and county agencies as an advocate and promoter of activities in this area.

I know I speak for the entire board in commenting on the great fortune we have in Charlotte as our new Senior Services Coordinator.  Thank you, Charlotte!
