Westerlo Reformed holds benefit with food and goods for sale

To the Editor:

Love is shown in many ways.

Ours is not a big church, according to any statistician, or denominational standards. But in heart we really try to be what our Lord has called his people to be, a help in time of need to the poor in spirit as well as in body.

The Westerlo Reformed Church is once again asking for help for a person in need. Herb June was diagnosed with thoracic carcinoma back in the spring. He has undergone many chemotherapy sessions with the maximum doses allowed.

As bad as he felt (like death warmed over), he continued to go to work. Now the time has come for surgery, on Oct. 16, and after surgery he will not be able to return to work for several weeks.

His fear is — how do you and your family survive without a paycheck? We all know what stress does to us in a normal week, but facing surgery and weeks without pay is downright frightening.

So, the Westerlo Reformed Church is having another benefit sale on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be some homemade baked goods for sale with coffee or tea.

If you’re out leaf-peeping, you can stop in for hamburgers and hot dogs right off the grill, with salads for lunch. The colors are popping fast with our cooler temperatures.

Some items for sale are: a generator, tools, solid maple chests of drawers, end tables, computer tables, a beautiful child’s desk, wonderful Christmas decorations, a full dining-room table with six chairs, filing cabinets, another dining table, new children’s Halloween costumes, many toys and games, an electric wine cooler, a pasta maker, and many, many other items too numerous to mention.

Please help us to continue to support Herb and his family by coming by and either buying something or making a donation. If you can come on Saturday, you will find us on Route 143 right across from Hannay Hose Reels in Westerlo, or mail a contribution to the Westerlo Reformed Church, Post Office Box 70, Westerlo, NY 12193 marked in the memo for Herb.

Thank you to everyone for helping to support someone in need.

Chris Allen, elder
