Museum closed till April to preserve collections

To the Editor:

The New Scotland Historical Association has temporarily closed the New Scotland Museum between Jan. 1 and March 31, 2016.  This measure is necessary for the NSHA Collection Committee to have full and unimpeded access to the collections to assess and undertake necessary preservation measures for the museum’s collections.

The preservation of the museum’s collections for future generations is an overriding concern in NSHA’s decision. The NSHA Board sincerely hopes that association members and the general public understand the need to temporarily close the museum.

The Town of New Scotland Museum, which is located at the Wyman Osterhout Community Center in New Salem, tells the story of the town of New Scotland, including its natural history, the development of the town, and the town’s role in historical and current events. We certainly hope you will visit the museum and enjoy its exhibits when it reopens.

Alan S. Kowlowitz, vice president
