GUILDERLAND — Six-year-old Tyler Hemmingway remains hospitalized at Albany Medical Center in stable condition.

He had been hit by a car as he crossed the street in front of his apartment building on July 8.

Tyler, who lives in Brandywine Apartments, was crossing Route 155 with his grandmother at about 9 p.m. when he was struck by a 2002 Chevy Suburban driven by Anthony M. Nichols, 55, of 101 Ten Eyck Place, according to a release from the Guilderland Police Department.

Nichols told police he did not see anyone in the roadway, but heard a “thump and a woman’s scream,” said the accident report. He said he immediately pulled into a driveway and went back to see what had happened.

Hemmingway’s grandmother, Teshon Bowden, said he was crossing the road right behind her when he was hit, the report said. 

Guilderland Emergency Medical Services and the Western Turnpike Rescue Squad provided medical attention at the scene, and Hemmingway was transported to Albany Medical Center with head injuries, according to the release.

Nichols has not been charged with any crimes at this time, and the investigation is ongoing, said Captain Curtis Cox.
