I’m running for school board because the children are our future
To the Editor:
This is a letter to Berne-Knox-Westerlo community residents.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the over 300 members of our community who signed my petition to run for the BKW Board of Education and to ask for the support of all of the BKW voters.
I am a lifelong resident of the community and a 1978 BKW graduate. My three children also graduated from BKW.
I recently began attending our school board meetings and decided it was time for me to take a more active role. As it turns out, I am running unopposed.
I am seeking a position on the BKW School Board because the children of the district are our future. I recognize the challenges our residents have with rising taxes, especially for our community members who are aging and on limited incomes.
We need to look for ways to reduce our tax burden. We need to maximize the effectiveness of every dollar spent by the taxpayers on education while carefully balancing responsibilities to educate the children.
I will do my best to ensure the children and the community both receive what we are all striving for — the best education we all can afford. I will be seeking input from all of you and hope to be the community’s voice at board meetings.
I urge everyone to get out and vote on May 19.
