Water-main break on New Scotland Road leaves some residents with murky but safe water

BETHLEHEM – A water-main break on New Scotland Road in Bethlehem left a few customers without service briefly on Monday, while more than few ended up with discolored, but safe, water.

George Kansas, the commissioner of Public Works, told The Enterprise that two water mains run below Route 85, a 10-inch and a 16-inch line.

The break occurred in the 10-inch line near 1755 New Scotland Rd., Kansas said, which supplies fewer customers. In New Scotland, the 10-inch main supplies the Heldervale Water District, Kansas said, adding, that he hadn’t received any complaints from New Scotland residents.

“Residents are advised to run their cold water until it clears,” an alert from the town of Bethlehem said. “The water is completely safe for consumption, cooking, bathing, drinking, etc. Residents should make sure their water is clear prior to washing any white or light colored laundry.”
