Mr Subb robbed of 276 suspect flees

GUILDERLAND — Two Mr. Subb employees were startled on Saturday, Feb. 7, when a white man wearing a black ski mask entered the restaurant and began pressing buttons on the cash register, police say; he left with about $276 in cash, police say.

Police are calling it an armed robbery, which means “the suspect was carrying an item that had potential to cause bodily harm,” said Investigator Charles Tanner. He declined to name the weapon from Saturday’s incident but said it was not a firearm or knife.

No customers were in the store at 7:39 p.m. when the robbery occurred, and Tanner said the employees were taken by surprise, but the ordeal was over very quickly and they did not have to decide whether or not resist the burglary.

The sandwich shop, located at 2005 Western Ave., has not been robbed in at least the past 14 years, the amount of time Tanner has been on the force, he said. The restaurant has a security system in place, but Tanner declined to comment on exactly what the system was; he did say that, if video surveillance were available, it most likely would have been released.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately six feet tall, who was wearing a red and white coat, blue jeans, and a black ski mask.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone who may have information about the incident is encouraged to call the Guilderland Police Department at 356-1501.
