Guilderland library first in state to sell E-ZPass
GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland Public Library will be the first public library in the state to sell E-ZPass On-The-Go tags for Thruway travelers.
“The Guilderland library reached out to us, and filled out an application to be an on-the-go retailer,” Sydney Jenkins, public information officer for the Thruway Authority, told The Enterprise. “We’re thrilled they did.”
Jenkins said the Authority started its retail-sales program in 2005 and now has 750 locations where people can buy EZPasses. Municipal offices across the state sell EZPasses, she said, adding, “We hope to expand the program to libraries.”
Asked if toll collectors were being phased out, Jenkins responded, “EZPass is the most convenient way to pay your toll.”
The Guilderland library’s roughly 225,000 annual visitors can now purchase a prepackaged tag for $25. Once customers registers their On-The-Go tag either online or by phone, the full $25 is credited to their account, and the tag becomes active in 24 hours. E-ZPass On-The-Go allows the customer to receive the tag right away, without waiting seven to 10 days to receive it in the mail.
New York E-ZPass customers save 5 percent off the cash toll rate each time they travel the Thruway and may be eligible for additional toll discounts, depending on their travel, vehicle, or residence.
Patrons may the Guilderland Public Library at 2228 Western Ave. to purchase an E-ZPass tag. More information about E-ZPass and the On-the-Go program is online at https://www.e-zpassny.com/en/onthego/onthego.shtml.
