GUILDERLAND — Mathew Manning, 55, of Utica pleaded guilty to driving while ability impaired by the combined influence of alcohol and drugs, a felony, before the Judge Peter Lynch in Albany County Court Wednesday morning.

On Aug. 14, 2016, at about 8 p.m., Manning was seen driving erratically in his white Chevrolet by swerving far to the left and striking a guardrail in the center median on I-90 in Guilderland. When the car struck the guardrail, the front driver-side tire came off of the car. Despite this, according to a release from the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, Manning continued to drive across three lanes of traffic, coming to a stop against the right shoulder of the highway.

State Troopers responded to the scene and observed Manning speaking with severely slurred speech, the release said, and he failed multiple field sobriety tests, and admitted to taking Alprazolam, Amphetamine, and Methamphetamine before driving.

Manning faces one to three years in state prison, in addition license revocation for a minimum of one year, and mandatory completion of the Victim Impact Panel and Drinking Driver programs, when sentenced on June 28.

Assistant District Attorney David Szalda of the Vehicular Crimes Unit prosecuted this case.
