Tax warrant approved for VCSD

VOORHEESVILLE — School taxes are up about 1 percent in New Scotland to cover the $22.7 million school district budget, for which state aid pays slightly less than a quarter.

At the August meeting of the Voorheesville Board of Education, the tax warrant was unanimously approved.

The warrant is the total amount of money to be levied from all property taxes paid in the district, which go to the schools and the library.

The amount going to the schools for this year is $16,431,622, and the library is to receive $1,112,675.

According to the district’s assistant superintendent for business, Charles Snyder, about 76 percent of those funds come from New Scotland residents, 22.5 percent from Guilderland residents, and the remaining 1 percent and change from Berne residents.

The tax rate for New Scotland residents increased by 0.96 percent, 3.2 percent for Guilderland residents, and 5.69 percent for Berne residents.

The rate equates to $19.03 per $1,000 of assessed value in New Scotland, $20.68 in Guilderland, and $28.40 in Berne.
