Pine Bush partners with CDTA to expand access to preserve

GUILDERLAND — People who may not have access to personal transportation will now be able to visit the Albany Pine Bush Preserve.

The Capital District Transportation Authority has partnered with the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission to offer specific Saturday trips to the Albany Pine Bush Discovery Center at 195 New Karner Road.

“Working closely with the CDTA gives us an opportunity to open the preserve to a wider audience,” said Christopher Hawver, the commission’s executive director, in a press release. “In addition to managing the globally-rare ecology here, we strive to educate the public and provide recreational opportunities as an important part of our mission.

CDTA customers can use the Route #155 bus, on Saturdays between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., to visit the center; the trips are aligned with programming at the center.

“CDTA is pleased to bring this additional benefit to citizens of the Capital Region,” said Carm Basile, CDTA chief executive officer, in the release. “Now people that use our service will have easier access to what the National Park Service has recently proclaimed an exceptional site that exemplifies our country’s natural heritage.”
