BKW's first Christmas Tourney a gift

Eight local high schools gathered at Berne-Knox-Westerlo for the inaugural Christmas basketball tournament in Berne on Monday and Tuesday. Host BKW took on Cairo-Durham on Monday evening and won, led by sophomore Slade Pulliam’s 20 points. Then the Bulldogs took on Greenville for the tournament championship in which the Bulldogs led from start to finish.

Leading the aerial attack is Zach Hilton who scored 28 points in the 65-to-46 victory. Hilton is now only 17 points away from the 1,000-point club at the school.

The tournament’s Most Valuable Player Justin Houck scored 23 points in Tuesday’s win and 12 points on Monday.

Fighting for every loose ball, BKW’s Deanna Yarusso helped the Bulldogs to Monday evening’s victory. On Tuesday, the team lost to Greenville after an early double-digit deficit, which saw the Bulldogs’ comeback fall short in the 64-to-53 loss.

The Bulldogs sailed past Rensselaer, 70 to 50, led by Junior Monique Britton on Monday as she scores two of her team-high 27 points.  Britton led the team with 22 points and Shayla Lyons had 21 points.
