2015: A Year of Striving

Local student athletes worked hard this year to be the best.

The Guilderland girls’ lacrosse team got back to the top of the mountain by winning its sixth Section 2 championship on June 4. For the past two years, the team had lost the championship game.

The weather didn’t stop Berne-Knox-Westerlo's Allie Tedeschi as she competed in the 2000-meter steeplechase in the Western Athletic Conference championships on May 19 at Fort Plain High School where she finished second and went on to finish fourth at state qualifiers.

Kyle Anderson, of Berne-Knox-Westerlo, competed in the pentathlon where Anderson took home the Western Athletic Conference championship then finished in sixth at state qualifiers.

Returning to form after a year of struggle, the Guilderland football team, throughout the season, turned the tide with a powerful run attack, like that shown by Cameron Long as he muscles off an Albany High player. In the end, the Dutch lost in the sectional semifinal to Shaker.

The Voorheesville girls’ soccer team had another great year, led by the one-two punch of Veda Hensel and Rebecca Clair, but yet again couldn’t get over that last hurdle — the Section 2 championship game, this time against Class B state champions Schalmont.
