Photos: Hilton Barn finally rests
The 120-year-old Hilton Barn was lowered to its new foundation Monday, moved across the street last March to save it from demolition. New Scotland Supervisor Doug LaGrange said he hopes to eventually see the barn connect with the Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail and use it as a venue.

The Hilton Barn is lowered to its new foundation Monday as local volunteers look on. The 260-ton barn has been suspended on I-beams since March of this year after being moved from its previous location. Joseph Hilton had Frank Osterhout built the massive barn on his New Scotland farm in 1888. Now, New Scotland Supervisor Doug LaGrange says that he hopes to eventually connect the barn to the Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail and use it as a venue for events such as weddings.
Corrected on Nov. 14, 2016: The wrong weight for the barn was reported originally.

Swinging the hammer, New Scotland town board member Adam Greenberg knocks away excess wood from the bottom of the Hilton Barn while his fellow board member, William Hennessy, looks on. Both board members were instrumental in saving the barn after the councilman who spearheaded the movement to save it, Daniel Mackay, moved out of state.

Creaking and groaning, the historic Hilton Barn was lowered using piston jacks. The barn had been slated for demolition to make way for a housing development but was saved by the town, with support by the state, the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy, and the Voorheesville Community and School Foundation, with a move across the street.
