As the weather changed, the play on the gridiron rose for Guilderland, Oct 21., and Voorheesville, Oct. 22, football teams during sectionals.

Last Friday night, Guilderland’s Evan Gallup spins away from Bethlehem’s Steve Mendleson during the fourth quarter in the Class AA sectional quarterfinal at home. The Dutch pulled out a victory, 12 to 7, in the nail-biter. Gallup had 17 rushing yards on five carries and 44 receiving yards on three catches.

On a cold and dreary Saturday, the Blackbirds faced Hoosick Falls in the Class C sectional quarterfinal and sailed to victory, 29 to 6. Being a dominant force, Voorheesville’s Dalton Esposito, right, stiff arms the Panthers’ David Everard on his way to the end zone during the second half. Esposito had 126 rushing yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns to go along with his 26 receiving yards on one catch.

Slicing through the rain drops: Voorheesville’s Ryan Daly launches a pass to a teammate during the second quarter. Daly had 85 passing yards on nine completions on 13 attempts, one touchdown, and one interception. The Blackbirds move on and play Mechanicville in the Class C semifinals at home on Saturday at 1:30. Voorheesville played Mechanicville on Oct. 1 and won, 34 to 20.
