Contemplating his 300th win, Coach Tom Galvin watches over the final minutes of Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s loss to Middleburgh last Friday, but he reached the historic mark in the next game on Wednesday as the BKW girls’ basketball team won at Sharon Springs, 43 to 22. “Now, we can move on and win more games,” Galvin said after the victory. He wanted to thank the four men — Reed Schultz, Fred Marcil, Steve Schrade, and Bob Drake — that hired him as a teacher and a basketball coach at BKW at the ripe age of 23 in 1995. Also, he thanked his wife, Stacey, who has “wrapped up a lot of leftovers, waiting for me to come home,” and all the other people and players who supported him along the way. Galvin says that he’s going to remain BKW’s coach until at least after Andy Wright’s daughter, now in fifth grade, is a senior. “It becomes a part of you; you feel naked without it,” said Galvin of coaching. “I’m staying with it.”
