Guilderland hockey





GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland ice hockey team traveled to central New York to begin the Christmas break.

But the Skating Dutchmen came back with a pair of losses in the Clinton Tournament. Guilderland lost to Pittsford, 7-2, on Dec. 23 and Cazenovia, 4-3, on Dec. 24.

The Dutchmen held the lead in the second game of the tournament.

John Potts gave Guilderland a 1-0 lead with 11:01 left in the first period.

Cazenovia scored twice in the second period.

Arron Race tied the score with11:06 left in the middle stanza. He was assisted by Shane Franz.

Cory Gillespie scored for Guilderland with 8:55 left in the second period off an assist from Aaron Cahill.

Cazenovia, again, tied the game with 3:07 left in the second frame on a tally by Brett Walters. Race got the assist on the score.

Guilderland broke the tie early in the third and final period. Ben Fogel tallied with an assist from Cahill.

But Cazenovia tied the game later in the period on a goal by Race.

Neither team could break the tie and the game went into overtime.

Cazenovia scored with 1:18 left in the extra session on a goal by Brett Walters. Race assisted on the game-winning goal.

Adam Gray made 40 saves for Guilderland and Ryan Ammann made 12 stops for Cazenovia.

Pummeled by Pittsford

In the opening game of the tournament, Pittsford broke open a 2-2 tie in the second and third periods.

Guilderland took a 1-0 lead just 22 seconds into the contest. Tim Montgomery scored with an assist from Cahill.

Pittsford tied the game just a couple of minutes later.

Guilderland scored its final goal 9:41 into the first period. Havard Brustad scored with assists from Montgomery and Fogel.

Pittsford tied the game with 49 seconds left in the opening frame and then rattled off five unanswered goals in the second and third periods to pull out the win.

Brian Clother made 14 saves in goal for Guilderland. Brendon Glennon stopped five shots in the third period.

Guilderland forced the Pittsford goalie to stop 24 shots.

The Skating Dutchmen remain winless on the season. They have a 0-7-2 record.

Next up for Guilderland is a home contest on Friday against Capital District High School Hockey League foe Burnt Hills.
