NEW SCOTLAND — After going off the road in a red 2009 Mini Cooper, Gregory A. Sanderson, 21, assaulted an Albany County Sheriff’s deputy and was arrested for aggravated driving while intoxicated and second-degree assault, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

At about 1:30 in the morning on Dec. 4, sheriff’s deputies got a call reporting that a car horn was continuously sounding on Font Grove Road.  Deputies found the car, registered to Sanderson, in a field with “severe damage,” according to the release.

Sanderson got out of the car as deputies approached and was “immediately uncooperative,” the release says.

Officers smelled alcohol and brought Sanderson to the patrol station.  “While Sanderson was being processed he became agitated and struck a deputy sheriff,” the release says.  “The deputy sustained minor injuries.”

Sanderson, of 951 Krumkill Rd. in Slingerlands, was charged with second-degree assault, a felony; aggravated driving while intoxicated, for driving with a blood-alcohol content of higher than .18; obstruction of governmental administration, a misdemeanor; and fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.

Sanderson was arraigned by New Scotland Town Justice Margaret Adkins and was remanded to Albany County’s jail on $5,000 bail.
