Water-main break closes Voorheesville library

VOORHEESVILLE — A water-main break on Prospect Street next to the Voorheesville Public Library caused its closure for most of two days last week. National Grid workers accidentally hit the line, cracking it, as they were working on their own gas line on Tuesday, Nov. 21, according to Brett Hotaling, Voorheesville’s of public works superintendent .

“It’s a small area, in between where our pipe is, and their gas main is,” said Hotaling.

The break was found about 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon and water was restored by Wednesday morning, Hotaling said.

The Village Animal Clinic, public library, and seven homes on Prospect Street were affected by the break, he said.

Without running water, the library had to close on Tuesday afternoon, and was closed all day Wednesday, said Gail Sacco, the library’s director.

Sacco said that a very active needlework group, Nimblefingers, had to cancel its Tuesday afternoon meeting, and a meeting of the Therapeutic Riding Center was also cancelled.  A workshop to help people plan a Social Security retirement strategy was rescheduled for March 20.
