Hundreds enjoyed our first trunk-or-treat event

Famous mice, Mickey and Minnie, make an appearance at the inaugural trunk-or-treat event hosted by the Westerlo Rural Cemetery association in the town park.

To the Editor:

The Westerlo Rural Cemetery held its first trunk-or-treat Saturday in the Westerlo Town Park. Twenty folks decorated their trunks, including the Albany County Sheriff’s Office with the Sheriff’s Explorers as well as the Westerlo Fire Company Fire Police and Auxiliary Battalions!

There was an amazing turnout with over 200 trick-or-treaters and as many parents and grandparents!  There were games and prizes as well as refreshments including homemade cupcakes, doughnuts, cider, popcorn, hot chocolate, and coffee available for a donation.

We were able to raise $200 towards a new tractor for the cemetery association.  Many thanks to local stores for donations and to the town for the use of the park. Plans are already underway for next year when the event will take place on the Saturday prior to Halloween, again from 6 to 8 p.m. in the park.

A special thanks to the Savino and Peck families for all their work, personal expenses, and dedication putting such a successful community fun event together!

It was a safe way for the little ones to go trick-or-treating without having to go door-to-door in the dark on the streets. And, at the same time, it was fun for the people who set up their displays who never get trick-or-treaters as they live so far out out in the country!
