Shatter & Case kiosk sold counterfeit cell-phone accessories, police say
GUILDERLAND — The owner of a kiosk in Crossgates Mall was charged on Thursday with trademark counterfeiting.
Allen Mordukhaev, 25, of Albany, was charged with two counts of second-degree counterfeiting, a felony, and with two counts of third-degree counterfeiting, a misdemeanor.
Guilderland Police received a complaint in August that the Shatter & Case kiosk was selling counterfeit cell-phone accessories; according to a release from the department, over 450 counterfeit OtterBox cases, Louis Vuitton cases, Adidas cases, and PopSocket accessories were seized.
Mordukhaev turned himself in upon learning of the charges and was arraigned in Guilderland Town Court.
“Consumers seeking more information on ways to avoid purchasing counterfeit merchandise can obtain more information at www.stopfakes.gov,” the release advises. “Also if you suspect a store is selling counterfeit merchandise, many manufacturers’ web sites have a link to report counterfeits or contact your local law enforcement.
“Businesses are reminded that manufacturers often have agents checking retail locations for counterfeit items and in addition some law enforcement has training in the detection of counterfeit items.”
