Soccer sectionals
Its sectional time for the soccer teams in Section II.
The Voorheesville boys soccer team, fresh off winning the Colonial Council championship, earned the number-two seed and earned a home playoff game against the winner of Wednesdays scheduled game between Broadabin-Perth and Cobleskill-Richmondville. However, snow was forecast for the Cobleskill area and could postpone the game, said Section II boys soccer chairman Jim Gillis.
The Guilderland boys soccer team will open the sectionals on the road. The Dutchmen earned the number-six seed out of nine in the Suburban Council and will travel to South Troy to take on LaSalle on Friday night at 7 p.m.
The winner of that game will travel to play Bethlehem for a Class AA quarterfinal game on Monday at 2 p.m.
Berne-Knox-Westerlo Coach Jim Gillis decided not to take his Berne-Knox-Westerlo boys soccer team to the sectionals based on their record and their play this season.
The Guilderland girls team, which won the Gold Division of the Suburban Council, gets a first round bye and wont play until Wednesday, Nov. 2, against the winner of the Columbia and Queensbury match that will be played on Friday. With a win, the Lady Dutch will play in the semifinals at Broabalbin-Perth High School on Nov. 5.
The Berne-Knox-Westerlo and Voorheesville girls teams travel for their first round games.
BKW plays at Galway in a Class C match on Friday and Voorheesville travels to Cairo-Durham for a Class B match on Thursday. The Class B quarterfinals will be on Saturday and the Class C quarterfinals will be on Friday.
