Westerlo has a chance to make a change

To the Editor:

The town of Westerlo has a unique opportunity to make a change. For too long now, this Hilltown has been bogged down by a town board that finally can only be characterized as frozen in space.

Time after time, the good voters of Westerlo have been forced to chase good money after bad ideas. Examples are the fracking issue and most recently the referendum regarding the $2.75 million renovation of the town hall and the town garage (a situation that, by the way, still lingers and just will not go away).

Each time we, as residents, vote it costs us money — money that is well spent on the one hand to stop these projects but on the other hand it is money spent that otherwise could have been used for the actual benefit of the town. Instead, we just keep chasing this current town board.

One can only think the board members hope we will give up and allow them to continue in their stagnant ways.

But now, in this upcoming election on Nov. 3, Westerlo has a chance to move forward and elect new energy — new energy in the form of forward-thinking people with a fresh take on this floundering town.

To quote one of the candidates, “If we are not moving forward, then we are moving backwards.  Standing still ultimately results in falling backward.”

This current town board is and has stood still for far too long.

Please vote on Nov. 3 and, in doing so, please reflect on what you want for this town. Do you want to continue to vote down bad ideas? Or do you want to move forward and inject some positive energy into what could once again become a fine little Hilltown.

Let us bring in people that we can trust will be open and allow us to share in the new ideas for this town.
