VOORHEESVILLE –– On a cold and blustery Saturday morning, Oct. 16, eighty-six runners from in and around the area competed in the 10th annual Voorheesville Community School Foundation 5K road race to help raise money to support the community and its students.

This year, the Voorheesville Community School Foundation drew up a new 3.1-mile course that wound around the streets of Salem Hills, starting and finishing at the elementary school.

In one exciting finish between a father and his daughter, the 8-year-old daughter beat her dad by a nose.

Ben Greenberg, 41, of New Scotland won the race with a time of 16:32. Last month, Greenberg won the 5K at the Scottish Games in Altamont with a time of 16:19.

He was followed in the Voorheesville race by Richard Messineo, 22, of Nassau at 17:21; and Chad Davey, 32, of Delmar at 17:43.

Christine Ensslin was the first female finisher in the race with a time of 22:36. She was followed by Miwa Andrus, 36 of Voorheesville at 23:10; and Martha Snyder, 31 of Slingerlands at 23:20.

The day also included a one-mile fun run for kids.
