New super has different budget style

To the Editor:

Town of Knox budgets have traditionally been conservative, by allowing generous appropriations to cover unexpected expenses, accompanied by disciplined spending and careful savings.

We are fortunate to have had the responsible and forward-thinking policies that former Supervisor Michael Hammond used to keep our town finances on an even keel, and in such good health.

This year, our new town supervisor has cut appropriations to more closely reflect spending patterns in past years. It is a different style of operating.

If we come up short for any reason, we will have an unencumbered fund balance from which we can draw money.  The effect on our taxes will be no increase and no decrease.
